“I like to share my weekly shopping plan … to show that you can budget,” she explained. “I shop for two people, my husband and me, and I try to spend $ 100 a week.”

While these videos, she said, may not be as popular with TikTok’s younger fans, they have met with great resonance with her core student and young adult fan base.

“It took me years to really learn how to do this properly, but I’m just trying to focus on the things I already have at home,” she said. “So if I already have frozen vegetables, I build a meal on them – they just keep building up and trying to use what you already have instead of buying more things.”

DeWindt, using her well-stocked pantry, said her “average meal cost is about $ 2”.

When it comes to trying new recipes that aren’t her own, she has taught herself how to decide which ingredients to leave out or which ingredients to swap out.

“I think that’s what a lot of people get nervous about – they see a prescription and think they have to buy every single thing – you don’t always have to. I like to always think of recipes as a guide and not that you have to word it for Obey Word, “she said, adding that when you shop and cook for just one person, those ingredients can add up quickly at the checkout.

In addition to DeWindt’s grocery shopping tips, she also provides drooling recipe videos of fast food favorites recreated as quirky simple dishes.
