Brightline will activate a second rail line north of West Palm this week
JUPITER – Northern Palm Beach County’s drivers should be prepared to stop at Brightline level crossings this week as the company activates its second rail line.
Brightline will open the second track along the 13 miles long railroad in the county, meaning crews will mark drivers at 17 level crossings from West Palm Beach to Jupiter by 6pm Friday.
Drivers and pedestrians have to expect longer waiting times and when the track is used for freight traffic on both tracks.

In a press release, the company said it “reminds the public, pedestrians, motorists and cyclists to make safe decisions near trains and intersections, obey all traffic rules around intersections, and never stop on the tracks.”
The passenger rail company, which will one day connect Miami with the Orlando region, is busy laying a second railroad line through northern Palm Beach County and running test trains on local track beds. Brightline announced in August that its expansion to Orlando is 60% complete and will be completed by the end of 2022.
The Brightline service has been suspended since the beginning of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Trains between West Palm Beach and Miami will resume in November, and the company plans to roll out a shuttle and rideshare service to make it easier for passengers to get to and from train stations.
The company also plans to hire private drivers to staff cars, shuttles, and in some cases, electric golf carts to connect the drivers to their local stations.
