Raise your beer mugs during these Oktoberfest 2021 celebrations
For beer authenticity, we look no further than Rauf Vagifoglu-Khoffner, the Fort Lauderdale-based German wizard who has a rather fanatical approach to his foam. Khoffner’s German-style Pils, IPA, and Stouts use grains from Bamburg, Germany, and other sources, and adhere to a strict old-world technique called the German Beer Purity Law. (Beers are brewed with hops, barley, malt, water, yeast – but without tricky, funky flavors.) “It’s the same taste that you would find if you bought a ticket to Munich and ordered a good German beer”, says Khoffner. Served in his Khoffner brewery in the Food Hall: two beer specialties, Marzen Oktoberfest and Pale Oktoberfest, plus Raspberry Chocolate Stout (raspberry puree and cocoa nibs) matured in oak barrels. There will also be a Blind Beer Contest ($ 20, including five flights through Eventbrite.com) from September 25, October 2 and October 9, from 2pm to 4pm, where drinkers will have to guess three out of five mystery beers correctly , in order to win. (Prize: free beer.) In the Sistrunk dining hall, schnitzel, beer rolls, Bavarian pretzels and apple strudel from the butcher’s Chop Shoppe are served. The Food Hall does not accept Oktoberfest walk-ins, but visitors can make timed seat reservations for up to 20 people on their website.
