Waffles + Mochi inspired meal sets will feed 1 million people in need

If you’re a fan of Michelle Obama’s Netflix show, Waffles & Mochi, you know it’s about bringing nutritious food to children and families in fun, accessible, and educational ways. Well, the former first lady took that premise even further by partnering with Partnership for Healthier America to launch the Pass the Love Waffles + Mochi campaign to offer over 1 million meals to those in need in the US.

A review of meal set delivery services for each cooking level

To this end, they partner with ethical, sustainable food service companies like Genuine Foods to create nutritious “Pass the Love Mealkits” inspired by the ingredients in “Waffles + Mochi”.

Genuine Foods hired chef Amy Yi (formerly Jean-Georges & Westborne) to develop the recipes. Each box contains enough high-quality ingredients and recipes for three meals that the whole family can prepare and eat together. Children can even earn virtual “badges” for working through the recipes.

Even if your family isn’t a recipient of a free meal set, you can still join the cook and earn badges by researching, learning about, and cooking with various nutritious ingredients.

They also provided the recipes for the meal set so everyone can join the campaign. If your family loves chicken parmesan but wants to eat less meat and eat more vegetables, be sure to try the easy broccoli parmesan recipe. It’s simple and tasty, and the kids will enjoy making it with you as one of the best midweek dinners.


  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into large florets
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 (15 ounce) can of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 8 ounces of dry pasta cooked according to package directions
  • 1 clove of garlic


Step 1: Preheat oven to 450F.

Step 2: In a baking dish or ovenproof pan, add the broccoli florets and mix with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of Italian spices. Put in the oven and fry for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Once the broccoli is crispy, take it out of the oven and carefully spoon the tomato sauce over it. Sprinkle with parmesan and breadcrumbs and put the dish back in the oven for another 10-12 minutes.

Step 4: Let cool slightly, then serve broccoli parmesan in a bowl with pasta.
